Brook Trout
Maintain widely distributed, self-sustaining populations in as many of the historical habitats as is practical.
For stream resident brook trout stocks, 77% of streams listed in the rehabilitation plan continue to support brook trout, but increasing catch rates of brook trout in streams is only evident in Minnesota streams. For coaster brook trout, there is limited evidence of recovery basinwide (range expansion or increased abundance) from nearshore assessment surveys. However, there are some locations in the basin where coaster brook trout appear to be doing relatively well (e.g. Nipigon Bay, Isle Royale, Minnesota North Shore).
